Story

Boquete is a small mountain town in Panama. It is located in the province of Chiriquí, about 60 kilometers west of the Costa Rican border, and is situated next to the Caldera River in the lush green highlands of Panama. Because the town is located at an altitude of about 1,700–1,800 meters above sea level, it has a cooler climate than the lowlands. The temperature and natural environment are beautiful, making it popular among Panamanians and attracting tourists from all over the world.
In addition to its charm as a travel destination, Boquete is also world-renowned as one of the finest coffee-producing regions, especially famous for its cultivation of Geisha coffee—a rare and highly prized variety that consistently ranks among the most expensive coffees in the world. The combination of high altitude, volcanic soil, misty microclimates, and abundant rainfall in Boquete creates the perfect terroir for growing specialty coffee. This unique environment allows the Geisha varietal to develop its complex and delicate flavor profile, often described as floral, tea-like, with vibrant acidity and notes of jasmine, bergamot, tropical fruits, and stone fruits.
Many of the region’s coffee farms are family-owned and have cultivated coffee for generations. Some of the most iconic Geisha coffee producers, such as Hacienda La Esmeralda, are located in this very region. In fact, it was Hacienda La Esmeralda’s Geisha coffee that first captured global attention when it broke auction records in 2004, and it continues to dominate international competitions and auctions today. Since then, Boquete’s reputation as a premium coffee origin has only grown stronger. The meticulous care in processing, the use of experimental fermentation techniques, and a deep commitment to quality make Boquete’s coffee not only exceptional in taste but also a symbol of Panama’s excellence in coffee craftsmanship. For coffee connoisseurs, tasting a cup of Geisha from Boquete is considered a rare and memorable experience.
